Skills for Care sends work placement guide to every school and college in England
1/7/2009
Skills for Care have sent a copy of their new work placement guide for teachers to every school and college in England to attract more young workers into the adult social care workforce.
The guide for teachers supports the implementation of the Society, Health and Development Diploma and aims to help teachers make sure their students get the most of a practical work placement with a social care employer.
The easy to use guide breaks down core skills into bite-sized work units based on the Common Induction Standards for new entrants into the sector.
There is practical advice for teachers about how to prepare students for work placements before they arrive and easy to use standards that they are expected to reach including understanding the organisation and role of workers, safety at work, effective communication and how to respond to abuse and neglect.
All the free guides come with an order form for teachers to order work placement guides for employers and students including practical advice on issues including personal attitudes, dress and personal appearance and time keeping.
"We estimate that by 2025 the adult social care workforce will increase by up to 80% to 2.5 million workers so it is absolutely essential we attract more young people into our sector which is why we are mailing out these free guides," says Skills for Care CEO Andrea Rowe.
"All three guides offer easy to use support to make sure teachers, students and employers get the most out of a placement and we are confident the practical nature of all the guides will convince many young people of the real benefits of a long-term career in social care.
"The guide can also be used to support those students completing an apprenticeship and we would also urge employers to order a copy of the guide to make sure they get the most out of a student placement."
You can purchase copies of the guides. Ring the Social Care Association on 0870 770 2469 to place your order.
