Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson guest speaker at international conference
12/1/2009
Paralympic gold medallist Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson will be the guest speaker at the International New Types of Worker in Health and Social Care conference organised by Skills for Care and Skills for Health.
The conference will bring together health and social care experts from across the globe to debate innovative schemes that are modernising practice and to share knowledge gained from projects in different parts of the world.
Skills for Care have been at the forefront of developing different ways of delivering social care across England through its New Types of Worker programme and the conference will discuss how the lessons learnt from those projects can be spread globally.
Confirmed keynote speakers include Professor Sir George Castledine who as Professor of Nursing at the University of Central England has lectured all over the world and Dr Joshua Tepper from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care in Ontario, Canada.
"This is a rare opportunity for health and social care innovators from around the world to come together to share best practice and find how those ideas could work in different corners of the globe," says Skills for Care CEO Andrea Rowe.
"I am particularly looking forward to the opportunity to reciprocate the welcome I was given in October in Adelaide to Di Lawson, CEO of our sister body in southern Australia, the Community Services & Health Industry Skills Council.
"I'm incredibly proud of the way our New Types of Workers projects are challenging the traditional ways of delivering social care in England and I'm confident some of those innovations would work well in other countries.
"We have a stellar group of guest speakers from around the world and I think delegates will be inspired by the achievements of all time great paralympian Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson who will be the guest speaker at the evening function."
