Skills for life
Skills for life is the Government strategy for improving adult literacy, language and numeracy skills in England. It covers:
- Numeracy
- Literacy (reading, writing, listening and speaking in English)
- English for speakers of other languages (ESOL)
- Basic ICT skills (information and communications technology)
Skills for Care wants to promote Skills for Life development across all parts of the adult social care sector in England. Skills for life - a practical guide for employerssummarises everything you need to know to get started.
Care Skillsbase
A free online communication and number skills website has been launched by Skills for Care and the Social Care Institute for Excellence.
At the click of a button managers can identify what skills their workers need to be able to effectively support people who use services and carers.
The online resource includes a comprehensive Skills Check, a Manage Skills section and a Compare Standards facility allowing managers to check their understanding of safety and quality including the Common Induction Standards, NVQs and GSCC Codes of Practice.

The publication of the national Skills for Life strategy has opened the way for the North West to develop its regional strategy and over the next year significant investment is being made in this area of activity.
